Christmas is always the largest holiday in the Western World... so what do you do when you're stuck abroad away from family?
You gather as many people as possible who wish to celebrate and gather to indulge at a hotel buffet.
A few of us regularly visit NUO Hotel in Lido area of Beijing- whether it be to brunch or to stay. So this hotel was an obvious choice for us. Not only were there great package deals on food and free flow, the service was impeccable as always- especially whilst booking for a large group. Huge, huge thank you to Frank for his continued patience when booking and offering of solutions to any problems we had. He was, and is, an absolute star. Another big thank you to Rutger, the F/B Manager who managed to work around any issues we had on the day (caused by my party) and dealt with my stress head. Another absolute gem.
The NUO Hotel Beijing, is very consistent in quality for the price. It may be slightly in the higher end of some budgets but the selection and quality of options are perfect for a celebration. We chose the evening sitting so we could spend time in the day swapping gifts and contacting loved ones back home. The evening sitting ran from 6pm, and cost just shy of 600RMB (60GBP) not including free flow champagne. Different priced drinks packages were also on offer. A very similar set up to the regular brunch.
Some of the options included a carvery of meats and salmon, roasted vegetables, and the 'trimmings' expected of a UK Xmas lunch. However, we were also served caviar, and had options to order lobster, oysters, crab etc, should we so wish. Options at all the stations ranged from Middle Eastern, to Sushi, Indian, as well as Swiss Raclette. In the dessert section, there were fresh ice creams, tarts, and a candy floss station (though I think it was meant for children; children of all ages were picking at different coloured balls of fluff on sticks!).
An amazing time was had by all. Cannot recommend this hotel buffet enough. Truly one of my favourite places. A genuinely excellent experience. If I'm in Beijing for Christmas next year, I'll most definitely be returning.
